“Concentrate only on yourself and you’ll be depressed;
concentrate only on others and you’ll be distressed;
concentrate on Jesus and you’ll be at rest.”
Corrie ten Boom
I spent time weekend focusing on all three of those things.
And it was good.
Every Spring our teens gather at a district youth retreat on the
Chesapeake Bay.
We enjoy great speakers, worship music, time spent connecting and laughing together.
Surprisingly, even with a couple hundred teenagers milling around I was able to find
a few moments of solitude on the beach.
It's usually pretty warm but this year it was not.
Nevertheless, I took my annual early morning trip to the dock
to explore and take pictures.
Every year on this campus I am reminded again of
God's creativity
and the beauty that is His creation.
Even in the overwhelming amount of brown that still covers the trees and the ground
it is still beautiful.
The way the sun hits the water...
The exquisite details in even the most minuscule shells ...
The symmetry
The stillness...
The majestic flight of creatures...
The call of those creatures from one tree to another...
recognized by those that are a mirror image of themselves....
Solitude
Safety
In the midst of the brown,
color
as bright as the brown is dull...
And in the evening...
color
all over again...
"True silence is the rest of the mind,
and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body,
nourishment and refreshment."
William Penn
