"I hold on to You for dear life, and you hold me steady as a post..." Psalm 63

It has come to my attention...

...that it is soon to be bathing-suit-shopping-time again.  I hate that time of year.  It used to be that I hated it because I hate every single suit I've ever tried on.  But, I'm past that now...I only wish for those days.  These days I break out in a  sweat thinking about bathing suit shopping because I. HAVE. A. 13. YEAR. OLD. DAUGHTER.  And...the designer world hates me and is out to personally sabotage my relationship with Miss Emma who only wants to wear what everyone else is wearing...but what everyone else is wearing is really hard to see, because all you really see is THEIR WHOLE BODY..know what I mean???

I don't get it.

Why is it so hard to create and sell cute bathing suits in great prints that are ALSO modest?  I'm not talking prudish here...I'm just talking a little covering up.  I'm not even talking a full out one piece - even I understand that.  I can even deal with a little belly peeking out...But, really, would it kill Target to actually sell two pieces that have more than an 1/16 of a yard of fabric?  You're killing me here...I feel it coming on...a brawl of the wills.  And all because someone out there decided that the skimpier the bathing suit, the better.  And now mothers like me have to argue with their daughters over what it means to cover their bodies because everyone ELSE in the WORLD will be wearing THIS...

Really?

Great fabric...but can we cover a little MORE??

This one I like...cute fabric and covers much more.....
Question is, will she go for it???
sigh...not a chance.

Oh wow....
I was just at Target, perusing the aisles for a birthday gift for a friend of mine headed to Jamaica in a few days, and at one point I did a double take, as I saw two teensey little triangles bordered with black lace hanging from the rack, and (seriously) thought that maybe someone had hung a bra from the lingerie dept. there. But when I saw the 10 exact models behind it, I realized it is a Bikini. I cannot even imagine. COME ON!!! Do women forget there is 'sexiness' (if the word must be used) in a little mystery?!?!? I guess young ones do not. They've never been 'fed' that by the world. Look what "fun" I have ahead...and my two girls are ALREADY stubborn and dramatic. Yikes!!! (This post reminds me of my own adolescence and swimwear...I may have to do a post on that.)
Thanks for the smile...and shudder!

What goes around comes around, my Dear Daughter! EVERY mom and daughter stuggle with differing opinions concerning clothing! Trouble is, what WENT around when you girls were teens won't GO around for teens today! I don't see much of ANYTHING going around those bodies today! Sigh. Hang in there...you're doing a great job!

You would be in more trouble here... showing skin just isn't viewed the same, so finding 'our definition of modest' swimwear might be impossible.

SIGH!!!!!!!!! Jeane, yes, your day is coming...i fear how far we will have come by the time your girls are teens! Mom..I don't remember your ever having to fight off a teeny bikini on me....Did you??? I don't remember it mattering so much. Christine, remind me not to let Emma live in Europe for a very long time!!!

I just read this heartfelt post of yours, and then I proceeded to read my daughter's comments, and a smile rose to the surface. I must admit, my comments to this well written and well stated post are exactly, word for word, the same as your beautiful mother shared in her selection of words in the comments section. Wise lady she is! I just could not have said it any better than she did. I do wonder what kind of post my own daughter could be sharing at a later date. This has been an enjoyable visit, and I could not agree with you more.

Hope you stay warm on this cold Sunday!
